Climax of Do the Androids Dream?

The climax definitely startled me, when Isidore had the epiphany of the earth becoming more barren and desolate. I felt that the Humans would be able to put earth back together in some way, but just the thought of animals killing each other and the emptiness of how the world would be was very unexpected. "Don't, he said aloud, but the crow, rapidly, picked out the donkey's eyes"(Dick,211). I feel as though now that Isidore has seen this vision it is becoming more apparent of how the book will end. And during the climax Rick ends up killing off all the androids. It kind of went to me assuming that everyone would die but after reaching through the whole climax it was still a bit surprising but not as much.

Do Androids Dream? A Scene I found Interesting.

The scene I found most interesting so far in the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? was when Rick Deckard was administering a test on Rachel Rosen to see whether or not she was an android or not. When administering the tests he asks a lot of odd questions such as "Do you know how bullfights ended?"(Dick,49) or "In a magazine you come across a full-page color picture of a nude girl"(Dick,47). Why would any of these questions or statements have to deal with whether or not Rachel was a human or not?

Chapter 11 A &B, something interesting

Something interesting in Chapter 11 would be that one of the reasons that writers write multiple drafts is to overcome the limits of short term memory. According to A&B, "Writing a draft captures these ideas from short term memory and stores them on a piece of paper". So that if you forget something during the first time you are writing a paper, you can always take another draft and put the forgotten information into that draft. Also doing more than one draft can help with problem areas and perhaps maybe you passed a problem in your first 2 drafts. The more the drafts, the better quality information you give out! It's interesting to me because I am usually hard-headed about some of the papers I write, so I believe that the paper sitting in front of me after one write with no drafts is completely fine. But after reading this I will be sure to put more effort into doing multiple drafts.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Something strange.

In the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? there seems to be a lot of things that interest me and come off strange, but the thing that startled me the most was the T.V. scenes. During that scene once the T.V. was shut off there was just cold silence. "And so for a minute I shut off the sound. And I heard the building, this building; I heard---"(Dick,2). Her husband responded with just the two words "Empty apartments". Throughout that conversation you could feel that the whole world had just seemed to turn into utter emptiness. It's scary to think that there is always so much going on around us that even the sound of one T.V. being turned off could bring such emptiness and loneliness.

A&B

The most interesting concept that I learned while reading Allyn & Bacon would be the the difference between a closed-form writing and an open-form writing. A closed-form type of writing seems to be more rule based and would deal with writing in a professional aspect while open-form type of writing seems to be more free and less rule based. From learning about this concept I learned that during my years writing I have done more open-form type writing. I also learned a lot about the structure of a paper and all the elements that go into writing a paper. The big one; thesis. Your thesis is your main point of the paper and the big aspect that as a writer you really need to focus on. To go along with your thesis you need to also focus on intriguing your readers and one way to do that would be to add "tension" to your thesis. This means that the reader is being pulled away from the "norm" and given a more surprising outlook on the thesis. My ideas about writing did not change at all. There is a lot of elements that go into writing a paper and reading A&B just enlightened me to a lot of them. It will definitely help me out with learning all these elements and will give me more tools on how to make the structure of my paper more organized and make more sense to my audience.

The Beginning

English 151 is a class that puts all our skills learned in High School and challenging them. We will be reading and will be responding to the things we have read in short essays. We are writing the blog to see what other classmates are writing and possibly to help each other/ learn from each other. The reading that I am most exposed to would probably be the writings that I have read in High School or books that have been referred to me by friends. The writing that I would say I am most exposed to would be poetry due to the fact that it interests me a lot. In High School I did some research papers but I mostly was exposed to writing stories about my personal life or creating stories that had my own characters, etc. The technology I am most exposed to would be the computer, it definitely has so much information so that you never get bored! It also goes hand in hand with writing seeing as you can just find different stories/poems anywhere.
